The Bloomsbury hotel, a Grade-II listed 1928 building by Sir Edward Lutyens, blends historic charm with modern luxury. Following a 2017 redesign, it features 153 elegant rooms, the vibrant Coral Room, and the famous Dalloway Terrace, offering a stylish retreat in central London.
Located just a stone’s throw from the hustle and bustle of Tottenham Court Road, The Bloomsbury hotel is a 1928 Sir Edward Lutyens, Grade-II listed building originally modelled on Queen Mary’s doll’s house, in the renowned borough where The Bloomsbury Set lived, worked and partied in the early half of 20th century.
The hotel was redesigned in 2017, following a multimillion-pound investment programme led by Bernie Gallagher, Chairman of The Doyle Collection, in collaboration with Martin Brudnizki Design Studio – the internationally acclaimed interior architecture and design studio. Located at the front of the hotel is The Coral Room, a magnificent double heighted all-day restaurant and bar that has been sensitively restored due to the building’s listed status. The original panelled walls have been retained and given a high-gloss lacquer finish in vivid coral – a colour that Lutyens was fond of. This aesthetic continues through to the ceiling, highlighting the five bespoke Murano glass chandeliers, while British illustrator Luke Edward Hall created over 40 original pieces of art, inspired by the surrounding area and the hedonistic Bloomsbury set.
The hotel is also home to Dalloway Terrace, the renowned seasonally-changing al fresco restaurant, named one of London’s ‘most Instagrammed’ and named after Virginia Woolf’s eponymous character as well as, The Bloomsbury Club Bar. This moody, atmospheric space with a member’s club-esque atmosphere, offers a mystical cocktail menu inspired by a special deck of Tarot cards, designed in 1910 by the bohemian occultist Pamela ‘Pixie’ Colman Smith, member of the Bloomsbury Set. The Bloomsbury comprises 153 stylish suites and rooms designed by Michaelis Boyd, promising a chic escape after a day of exploring the nearby areas of Oxford Street, Soho, Covent Garden and beyond.
The spacious suites are complete with playful interiors, statement wallpaper and homely touches as well as literary-inspired amenities, mini in-suite libraries, free standing roll top baths and Italian marble bathrooms. Guests of the hotel will arrive at the original Portland Stone staircase that leads guests into the Reception Area, an intimate space which includes a beautiful Lutyens inspired Living Room, making the hotel feel more akin to a private home than a traditional hotel. A colour palette of muted greens and pinks is complimented by eye-catching, heritage-inspired botanical wallpaper and a Lutyens’ themed fireplace.
